Pitbulls are a general term for the dogs that were bred for dog fighting purposes. Breeders aimed at producing very strong dogs capable of gripping the opponent and holding onto it no matter how painful it could be. Nowadays, Staffodshire Terrier and Pitbull terriers are considered dangerous dogs and are even banned in some countries. So, why do breeders continue to breed such dogs if they are that aggressive and unmanageable?
The truth is that not all Pitbull dogs appear to be that unmanageable on the condition that breeders test the breeding stock prior to breeding and match the temperament of both the sire and the dam. Eagerness to work and protect the owner and his property are very valuable qualities. These qualities seem to be a priority for responsible breeders who want to produce well-behaved canines.
Irresponsible breeders, on the contrary, may aim at breeding gameness and aggressiveness in Pitbulls, as these are important qualities for a fighting dog. It is very likely that such breeders are responsible for a creating some situations that launched a huge campaign against fighting breeds and for raising alarm in the society of late.
Meanwhile, many acknowledge that Pitbulls are bred with all the genetic issues in mind and raised to be well behaved dogs are less likely to cause any problems. They are no more dangerous than any other breed whose functions include protection and guarding.
Breed clubs and rescue organizations are working hard now to educate breeders and owners on the issue of breeding and owning Pitbulls. They are rehabilitating this wonderful breed, Pitbulls.
